Crown or rebuild
Not every badly broken-down tooth needs a crown. With current adhesive techniques, many teeth are restored with inlays that cover only the missing part and keep considerably more healthy structure than a full crown.
When a crown is unavoidable
When the loss of structure compromises the strength of the whole tooth, or when the root-treated tooth has become so weakened that any partial restoration would end up fracturing.
-
Metal-free
Zirconia or porcelain: biocompatible and without the dark gum line of old crowns.
-
Natural look
The colour and shape are custom designed, without starting from a standard mould.
-
Restores function
The tooth regains its ability to bite and chew normally.
Crowns with a conservative approach
We first assess whether an inlay solves the case while keeping more of your own tooth.
The long follow-up of our patients shows that the margin is what fails first.
- Inlay considered before a full crown.
- Margin checked at every check-up.
The stages of a crown
-
Assessment and design
An X-ray is taken, the tooth is assessed, and the colour and shape are designed digitally.
-
Shaping and scanning
Only what is essential is removed from the tooth and it is scanned digitally, with no paste mould.
-
Fabrication and cementing
The crown is made in our digital laboratory and cemented, adjusting the bite at the same visit.

Frequently asked questions about this treatment
01 Crown or veneer?
A veneer covers only the visible face and keeps more of the healthy tooth: it's the option when the problem is cosmetic and the tooth is healthy. A crown covers the whole tooth and is used when there is significant damage, a previous root canal or a fracture.
02 What are crowns made of?
We work metal-free: monolithic zirconia or porcelain, depending on the case. Both are biocompatible and natural-looking.
03 How long does a dental crown last?
With proper hygiene and periodic check-ups, many years. Wear from uncontrolled bruxism is the most common reason its lifespan shortens.
04 Does preparing the tooth hurt?
It's done under local anaesthetic. Recovery is usually mild, with some sensitivity in the first few days.
